Our Uniform |
 |
For many years the 2nd Gourock and the other Gourock company have not worn the normal BB uniform.
As can be seen from the picture on the left (taken at Windsor in the 90s) we are a kilted Company and have been for 90 years.
There are a few other addition to our uniform such as the Balmoral, white spats and hose-tops (woolly socks!). The tartan of the kilt is Ancient Smith after the founder of the BB, William Alexander Smith.

|
This is one of the oldest photos of the Company (taken at the door of the church) and you can see the boys are wearing the pillbox caps and trousers like all the other BB's of the time.

There are a lot of parts of the uniform that have to be cleaned, some weekly for BB night. The Balmoral badge should be polished and the
tassels at the back should be kept straight.
The belt buckle should be polished with Brasso (or something like that) and the leather should be cleaned with brown shoe polish (the same applies for the sergeant cross belt). The haversack should be
washed at a high temperature as should the spats. Shoes should also be sparkling.
|
The kilt should be put on the correct way round (pleats to the back for the boy in 3rd Gourock at the Armistice parade 2001) and should be just touching the floor when you kneel down.
Put on the hose-tops around your shin, put your shoes on and put your spats on (with buttons to the outside) so that there is an inch between the back of the spat and the top of the hose-top.
With your blazer on put your haversack over the right shoulder (adjust the length so that the pocket of the haversack is inline with your jacket pocket).
Sergeants belts should be worn over the left shoulder with the badge over the left lapel of your jacket and the pouch in the middle of your back.
Your BB belt should sit just above the pocket of the haversack. Your Balmoral should sit on your head (with no hair showing at the front) with the badge above your left eye and should be pulled down to the right.
On your left arm you should have your Queens Badge or Presidents badge (if you have them) and below them you should have your Junior section gold badge and your years service badge.
On your right arm you should have your target badges and below them the award badges and surrounds in the order that they were gained. If you have stripes your stripes will go below all of these.
